This is hard for me to write. Asking for help isn't easy, but my mom, Carol Swenor, is in need of some extra help right now and lots of prayers.
At the end of February, my mom found out that she has a large mass in her pelvis. New imaging in May shows that it has grown in size and needs to be removed. At that time, we discovered that there is also something on her bladder that also needs to be removed. Imaging shows that the large mass has indicators of being cancer, but we won't know until it's removed. She will also be having a full hysterectomy at that time. Surgery is scheduled for August 21st in Green Bay. She will be out of work for about 6 weeks. We don't yet know what the next steps will be if her mass is cancerous. At almost 68 years old, she is still working a few days a week to make ends meet. Honestly, she can't afford to not work, but she will have no choice while she recovers from surgery. Thankfully, her workplace has been understanding through this and will be holding her job for her until she is able to return. My siblings and I help out as much as we can, but it's more than any of us can afford to do. She will need to go to Green Bay at least 3 times in the next 7 weeks.
Now some backstory on my mom. Carol is a single mom that raised 4 kids on her own and has devoted her entire life to our family. It wasn't always easy and there were many times that she struggled to make sure we didn't go without necessities. There was always a roof over our heads and we never went hungry. Even without having extra means to spend, she always seems to find a way to give. Most memorable is her baking. She makes the best chocolate chip cookies! She has been known to spend her last dollar to buy or bake her grandkids a special treat. She truly is the most selfless person I know. In December 2022, her parked SUV was hit and totaled while she was attending one of her grandkid's holiday events. Her vehicle was not worth a lot, but it was reliable and her most prized possession. The car she purchased to replace it broke down less than 6 months later. It was too expensive and not worth it to fix so she has been without her own car since then. She has had to rely on us kids to drive her around and get her to work. After being so independent her entire life, not having her own car has been hard on her and now add the possibility that she could have cancer, her spirits and mental health have really suffered. She is the best mom and grandma that anyone can ask for and I want to help her more than I am able.
I am asking for help to take some of the financial stress off of her so she can concentrate on her health right now and not have to worry how to pay her bills. If you know her, you know that she never worries about herself, but that's what she needs to be doing right now! All contributions will go towards her living and travel expenses while she is out of work.
On behalf of my mom and our family, I would like to thank you in advance for your prayers and help.
