Hi everyone,

My beautiful friend Carol has had a sudden and tough aggressive secondary cancer diagnosis. Carol is one of the most generous, kind and funny people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. She is currently still working to help equity-deserving youth from her work laptop in her hospital bed… because she is that type of person. Her son lives overseas and flights home are financially out of reach as he has a young family. Carol works FT at 71 and is the sole income for her and her husband; her age doesn’t allow her to qualify for long term or even short term disability. As I am well aware, not every cost to families navigating a cancer diagnosis is covered by benefits or our health care system. My hope is that with this fundraiser, Carol’s family is better supported to pay for any care she needs, that her son may be able to come to Canada, and that she can focus on getting well enough for further treatments rather than working from HSC.

Sometimes people come into your life and just bring warmth, love and pure goodness. That is my friend Carol. I am forever grateful for the support, inclusion and kindness she has shown my family. I know I am one of many, many people that feel this way. Carol would never ask for help, and I feel like that is one of the few things I can do for her now.
