On Saturday, September 27, 2025, Carol Cedeno was involved in a devastating accident during a race at Monmouth at the Meadowlands. Her horse stumbled, throwing her to the ground, where she was further injured by being trampled by two other horses. One horse landed on her wrist, shattering and dislocating it, while another struck her back, causing five fractured vertebrae. Carol is currently in the hospital, awaiting surgery to repair the severe damage to her wrist.
Carol is a native of Puerto Rico and has been a professional jockey in the mid-Atlantic region since 2007. She has earned recognition as a leading rider at Delaware Park many times over and is known for her dedication and resilience. Beyond her career, Carol is the mother of two wonderful children and is deeply valued by her friends and the racing community. She has always been there for those around her, including my son Matt, who has Autism and proudly calls himself the President of her fan club. Carol is like family to us, and we want to support her through this difficult time. (Carol bravely smiled for this photo to send to Matt so he wouldn’t worry and he would know she was ok!)
Carol faces a long road to recovery, with urgent surgery scheduled for tomorrow. The funds raised will help cover her medical expenses, lost income, and provide support for her family as she heals. Any contribution will make a meaningful difference and help Carol focus on her recovery, knowing she has the support of those who care about her.
From Carol’s family:
