Carmen Muñoz came to the United States from the Dominican Republic just two years ago, full of hope for a better future for herself and her two young children back home. She worked hard as a babysitter for a loving family in Pawling, NY — caring for children as if they were her own and sending every dollar she could to support her kids and finish building their small home in the Dominican Republic.
But Carmen’s dreams were suddenly shattered when she was illegally detained by ICE at a New York City court while attending a hearing for her asylum case — one of many tragic outcomes under the Trump administration’s harsh immigration policies. Carmen has no criminal record, no deportation order, and has always followed every legal step required.
Now, Carmen finds herself in the Dominican Republic with no money, debt, and an unfinished home. She is heartbroken, and struggling to rebuild her life after enduring a situation no mother should face.
Carmen is a kind, gentle, and hardworking woman who only wanted safety and opportunity for her family. Any contribution — no matter how small — will help her get back on her feet, secure stable housing, and pay her debt so she will not loose her house.
Please consider donating or sharing Carmen’s story. Your support means hope, healing, and a second chance.
