New HEART and a FRESH Start for Carmelita and DJ! 

Carmelita Murphy is a devoted single mother whose strength, perseverance, and unshakable faith have carried her through an unimaginable journey. After giving birth to her son DJ, Carmelita was diagnosed with postpartum cardiomyopathy—heart failure triggered by childbirth. Just two weeks later, she suffered a massive stroke, leaving her incapacitated. She had to relearn how to walk, talk, and care for her newborn son—all while fighting for her life.

Carmelita’s journey has been marked by one medical battle after another, including four open-heart surgeries. Before receiving her life-saving heart transplant, she lived with an LVAD (a mechanical heart pump), required a balloon pump, and was placed on ECMO—a last-resort life support system that temporarily took over the function of her heart and lungs.

Now, with a brand-new heart, Carmelita is beginning a new chapter—one filled with hope, healing, and the joy of raising her beloved son. She is a bright, shining example of a mother’s love, a true warrior whose unwavering faith has carried her through the darkest of days.
