Carmel Owls is dedicated to the installation of Great Horned Owl platforms in Carmel-by-the-Sea and neighboring Monterey Peninsula cities. Through the identification of suitable trees, the publication of easy-to-build owl platform assembly schematics, and a list of nearby cherry picker rentals, we make the process straightforward and simple to follow.
Carmel Owls’ goals over the next year are to build and install 7 to 9 owl platforms to encourage Great Horned Owls to nest and subsequently reduce the growing rat and vermin population in Carmel-by-the-Sea and the neighboring towns in Monterey Peninsula.
Costs include:
- Outreach via our hosted website & email newsletters at $118/yr
- Building owl platforms with materials at $80 to $140 each (with donated labor)
- Cherry picker rental for platform installation at $300/half-day (will cover the time for two to three platform installations)
- Printing half-page flyers for distribution to residents with suitable trees for owl platform
Any funds that cannot be used for the building of Great Horned Owl platforms and their installation will be donated to the Monterey SPCA Raptor Program.
