My name is Carly, and I recently received a diagnosis that has completely changed my life: a rare, aggressive cancer that primarily develops in the bones or surrounding soft tissues, known as Ewing Sarcoma. Originating in my pelvis, around the right hip joint, the road ahead is daunting, with at least a year of treatment that begins with 12 weeks of chemotherapy once fertility treatment is done. After that, I will undergo a hip replacement and pelvic reconstruction surgery, followed by another intensive round of chemotherapy that could last another 12 weeks or more. This journey is not only physically and emotionally challenging, but it also brings significant financial strain.
Last May, I was laid off from my job, and finding new work has been a challenge in today's market. While searching, I have been the stay-at-home parent for my wonderful son, who is 5 years old, and my two amazing step kids, ages 6 and 8. Now, as I face this cancer journey, I will need to lean even more on my incredible partner, Brandon. This means Brandon will have to take more time away from work to care for me and our kids, which will result in a smaller paycheck and added stress for our family.
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward covering our medical bills and essential living expenses while I focus on healing and our family adjusts to these new challenges. If there are any funds remaining after my treatment, I am committed to donating them to Fred Hutch to support future cancer research and help others facing similar battles.
Your generosity and willingness to help, even by simply sharing my story, means the world to me. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I, along with my family, feel for the incredible support system and community that surrounds us. We are truly thankful and blessed to have you by our side as we navigate this journey. Thank you for your kindness, encouragement, and support.
