Hi everyone,
Our dear friend Carly Giroux was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in the fall of 2025. In a matter of days, her entire world changed.
In November, doctors discovered a large tumour on her ovary, roughly the size of a small melon. Just days later, Carly underwent major abdominal surgery to remove it. The procedure was invasive, leaving her with a large scar and a long, painful road to physical recovery.
By mid-December, she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer - an aggressive form - alongside a BRCA1 gene mutation, increasing her risk of recurrence. Typically seen in women decades older, this diagnosis is especially rare and overwhelming at just 33.
On December 31, 2025, Carly began chemotherapy, starting the first of multiple intensive rounds. The effects have been significant. Along with the physical and emotional toll, chemotherapy has forced her body into early medical menopause and created great uncertainty around her fertility and future.
Despite all of this, Carly has approached her healing with incredible strength and determination. She has advocated for herself every step of the way and built a care plan that combines treatment through BC Cancer with additional therapies to support her recovery and long-term health.
However, this level of care comes at a cost. Carly has been unable to work for over five months after just starting her career as an education assistant. Her medical EI is ending soon, and the cost of extended benefits and ongoing care continues to add up.
We created this GoFundMe to help relieve some of that financial pressure so Carly can focus on healing, without having to make impossible choices about her care.
Funds will go towards:
– covering lost income and basic living expenses
– extended health premiums
– treatments and therapies not covered
– ongoing recovery support, including mental health care
– restoring ovarian function to ease the symptoms of medical menopause and hope for future fertility
If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing Carly’s story with your community would mean so much.
Thank you for showing up for Carly during this incredibly difficult time. Your support, kindness, and generosity mean more than we can express.
