I'm Jennifer Duval and I am looking to raise money to help Lucky Paws Cat Rescue of Clay County, NC so he may continue to do his life-saving work.
Carl initially started rescuing animals in 1985 in West Palm Beach, FL & continued to do so when he moved to Warne, NC in 2008 after retiring from his career as a special education teacher & school administrator.
Carl spends 7-10 hours a day, 7 days a week, making his "rounds" to feed and care for the feral colonies in Clay, Towns & Union Counties, driving anywhere from 800 to 1,000 miles a week. The hours and mileage are significantly higher during the colder months when the cats require more food to survive. He spends about $3,500 a month to help the cats that no one wants. He sees to it that all of the cats in the feral colonies that he tends are spayed/neutered, vaccinated against rabies & other deadly feline diseases. He traps & rereleases the feral cats usually with a makeshift shelter in place to protect them from predators, and from the summer & winter temperatures. The adoptable cats and kittens are taken to the Humane Society or other local no-kill shelters in the area. Although he primarily cares for the cats, he will help any animal in need. He believes that all animals must be treated with respect.
In April of 2021, Carl loaned me one of his traps so I could capture my Little G, who I thought was injured. If it hadn't been for Carl, I wouldn't have our little boy that has brought us immense joy and love these last few years.
Beginning in 2022, the local veterinarians that Carl would use for spaying and neutering, medicines, flea treatments, and caring for the sick and injured animals more than doubled their costs. There are a couple of clinics that haven’t raised the prices for their services, but they require appointments for treatment. I’ve yet to see a cat that was easily predictable, much less a feral one. This is a problem for Carl. He’s spending all of his retirement funds & time caring for these animals. He is currently caring for over 40 cats. He’s going through 12lbs. of dry food and 2 cases of wet food daily. Won't you please help Carl with funding to secure these felines' futures?
