My name is Mercedes Vargas, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for my younger brother, Carlos Vargas — a devoted husband, loving father, and a man full of strength and faith. In April 2025, our family received devastating news: Carlos, only 41 years old, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. Until then, he had no symptoms, just a few sudden seizures in February that led to a series of tests and, ultimately, a biopsy on April 9, followed by brain surgery on April 16 to remove a nearly 4 cm mass. Since that first surgery, Carlos has been unable to work, as his recovery and treatments have demanded all his strength and focus. He faced his diagnosis with remarkable courage and completed 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 50 chemotherapy treatments, enduring exhaustion, pain, and partial loss of his vision and short-term memory — yet never losing faith. He continues to fight every day with the hope of being there for his beloved wife Alexa and their three beautiful daughters: Nathalie (12), Charlie (3), and Maia (almost 2).

Sadly, on December 8, 2025, doctors discovered that a new tumor had grown, and Carlos was forced to undergo another brain surgery that same day. The surgeon was able to remove most of the second mass, and Carlos is now once again recovering from this major operation. His resilience and determination to keep fighting are truly inspiring. Before his illness, Carlos was the sole provider for his family, known for his hard work, kindness, and love of life. He enjoyed road trips, camping, the beach, soccer, and traveling with his family. Since his diagnosis, Alexa has had to stop working as well to care for him and their little ones full time. Their savings have been completely drained, and the family is struggling to meet ongoing medical expenses, daily living costs, and home bills. They are also trying to sell their home in Riverview, Florida, but the process is slow and their financial needs cannot wait.

Desde su diagnóstico, Alexa también tuvo que dejar de trabajar para cuidarlo a él y a sus pequeñas a tiempo completo.
