With heavy hearts, we announce the death of our beloved Carlos who passed away this morning, Sunday, August 31, 2025 during his 14+ hour transplant surgery. We are heartbroken and are still trying to understand what happened. We will share details when they are available. The donations that have been made will be used towards funeral/transport expenses. Hello! My brother-in-law Carlos is fighting for his life with his 2nd Liver Transplant. He received his first liver transplant in November 2021, and he has suffered complications and sickness ever since.

Last Friday, August 22, 2025, he was Medevac'd to Swedish Medical in Seattle, WA. His liver shut down, his kidneys failed, he was put on dialysis, he was not breathing on his own, and he had a major blood infection. The doctors don't know how he's still here through all of this as they thought he would not make it. Carlos proved he is stronger than you can believe. He began to breathe on his own, the dialysis was helping, he started to shed the infection, and the transplant team swooped in this morning to give him a 2nd liver transplant. He's still in surgery 8/30/2025 as it takes 6-12 hours. He will have a long recovery of more than 3 months as this is his 2nd transplant.

All of this happened all of a sudden. Carlos and his wonderful, strong wife Maria will have a great need for any assistance as Carlos won't be able to return home to Juneau, and Maria won't leave his side for as long as his recovery takes. All assistance will be used to help with medical bills, housing, and any unforeseen expenses during this time. Our family gives many thanks to all who help, check in on him, and continue to send positive thoughts and prayers.
