My name is Jan, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear friend, Carlos.

Carlos is 73 years old, and in June 2025, he was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and emphysema. Since that diagnosis, he has endured chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Most recently, he was hospitalized for a week after being admitted due to serious breathing difficulties and inability to walk. It has been a long and exhausting journey, marked by both physical, financial, and emotional challenges.

Because of his illness, Carlos was forced to leave his part-time job. He and his wife are now both retired and living on a very limited fixed income. As medical and hospital bills continue to grow—and calls from creditors increase—they are struggling to keep up with healthcare costs as well as everyday living expenses. The stress of navigating all of this has been overwhelming and probably inhibits his recovery.

Before Carlos became ill, he was the primary caregiver for his wife, who has her own ongoing health challenges. Asking for help does not come easily to either of them. They have always been hardworking, faithful, and self-sufficient people who took pride in standing on their own. Sadly, neither of them is healthy enough to return to work, and they’ve reached a point where they truly need the support of others.

Through all of this, Carlos’s faith has remained a source of strength and hope. He continues to trust God and believes there are still good years ahead, even in the midst of uncertainty. He and his wife are deeply grateful for every prayer, kind word, and act of generosity that comes their way.
