Support Carla's Journey to Recovery and Stability

Hello, my name is Carla, and life has brought me through some challenging trials over the past year. In March 2023, I experienced one of the most devastating losses imaginable—the passing of my son. The grief was overwhelming, and for a time, I struggled to find a way forward without him. Just as I began to rebuild, I faced another life-altering event: an aortic dissection, a life-threatening condition. My heart was not ready for all it had endured, and I was rushed to the hospital, where I learned my aorta was severely damaged and that surgery was essential. I had to wait for my blood pressure to stabilize before surgery, and after six long weeks in the hospital and a heart stent, I was finally able to go home.

Recovery has been an ongoing challenge. I’ve had to adjust to mobility issues, a sudden gluten intolerance, and persistent sleep difficulties. Throughout this time, I had no job or income, relying solely on faith and resilience to keep moving forward.

After 13 weeks of waiting for unemployment, I was informed that I didn’t qualify because I had resigned to help care for my mother and sons due to their own health challenges. While I appealed this decision, I focused on returning to work and am now blessed to have a new job, doing what I love: helping others.

However, just as I was beginning to get back on my feet, my van broke down and now requires major repairs. I have explored every possible resource in Columbus to seek assistance, but every effort has led to a dead end. So now, I’m reaching out to you for support. I need to raise $5,500 to repair my van so I can reliably get to work, support my family, and continue rebuilding our lives. As November is my birthday month, any help you could provide would be the best gift.
