Support Carla Walls' Journey to Rehabilitation
Donation protected
On April 26th, while traveling from Chicago to Mississippi for a family funeral, my mom, Carla Walls, suffered a sudden brain bleed that led to a stroke. She underwent emergency brain surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where doctors successfully removed the clot. After spending over a week on a ventilator and under heavy sedation, she is now thankfully breathing on her own and showing encouraging signs of progress.
Carla is a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend — someone who brings joy and warmth to everyone around her. This medical emergency has turned our world upside down, but we are grateful for every step forward she’s made so far.
My brother, my stepfather, and I rushed to Mississippi to be by her side, but as our responsibilities called us back home, we began working on the next critical step: bringing her back to Chicago to begin rehabilitation surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned that her insurance will not cover the cost of a medical transfer from Jackson, MS to Chicago, IL, as it is not considered a “medical necessity.” This leaves us facing significant out-of-pocket expenses to safely transport her home — a cost we simply cannot cover alone.
We’re reaching out for help to get our mom home so she can begin the long road to recovery with her family close by. Your support — whether through donations or by sharing this campaign — means the world to us.
Thank you for helping bring Carla home.
