My dad, Carl J. Gates, is 71 years young and has always been a source of strength and inspiration for our family. In October 2025, he was diagnosed with Stage 3B Lung Cancer. Despite the shock and fear that came with this diagnosis, Carl faced it with incredible determination. He completed six out of seven chemotherapy treatments and endured 33 rounds of radiation. We moved him to Fayetteville so he could receive care at Highlands Oncology, and he has now started immune therapy, with two rounds completed. We were encouraged to see his tumor shrink from 2.5 cm to 1.3 cm, a testament to his fighting spirit and the excellent care he's received.
However, this journey took another turn when a recent brain scan revealed five spots—one in every lobe—meaning the cancer has now advanced to stage 4 and spread to his brain. Even with this news, Pops has decided to keep fighting, and I admire him more than ever for his courage. Without treatment, doctors estimate he would have 6 months to a year, but with treatment, he could have 1 to 3 years. Unfortunately, the medical bills are adding up quickly. I want to help him through this next battle so he can focus on his health and not worry about the financial burden. Every dollar raised will go directly to his treatments and medical expenses, giving him the chance to make the most of his time with family and friends, free from the stress of mounting bills.
Whatever time Pops has, we want him to enjoy life surrounded by loved ones, making the best decisions he can without the weight of financial worries. We have been by his side from the beginning and will continue this walk with him until God calls him home. Thank you in advance for any donations, shares, or just words of encouragement as Mr. Carl travels down this cancer road. Your support means the world to us.
