Support Carl Becker with Recovery Rent&Medical

March 7, 2023, at 5PM, surgery 7 - Skin Graphing Surgery with another 7-10 recovery from this surgery in the hospital. Carl has been in the hospital since the end of January. He is courageously fighting a dangerous bacterial infection that spread to his chest cavity and back. He was given a less than 10% chance to live. It will take time for our Big Rock local waterman brother to recover, and I hope to get him a little help in the recovery process.

February 28, 2023. Surgery 6 today is late this afternoon. Visited Carl last night with Carmen, our daughter. When we are all together, it’s clear that Carmen is more like her dad, and I’m the odd one out. But it makes me happy, they get along so well. We had a nice visit and are ecstatic that Carl is finally able to get up and around after being stuck in a bed with too many hookups for over 3 weeks.

Every surgery fosters recovery with a recovery setback. Unfortunately, he's woken up to excruciating pain, and the day-to-day pain is pretty horrific. Even the doctors and nurses cringe at the pictures and thought of his wounds being so large and open for so long. Hopefully, today's surgery will be better. They will only close up part of his arm.

He is weakened but has so much fortitude and bravery to get through this all and to make it through something that was almost certain to kill him. Surgery 3, I was supposed to have that "if you die" talk with him, but it didn't feel right.

The open wound on the inside arm extends from his armpit to his wrist. I’d post pictures, but I’m sure some couldn’t take it. He also had two large open wounds in the chest and back which are fortunately mostly closed up now, plus two additional wound vacs on his sides. He has at least two more surgeries to go, and we are not sure when he will be released from the hospital.

The recovery process will take time, and his immune system is likely to be vulnerable. He will need a stable clean place to land and recover, not his van which he was camping in. A few years back Carl spiraled down. He’s been pretty up and down since. He was never able to get disability, though I’m certain he qualified. We believe underlying he has suffered most of his life with mental health/severe depression since childhood.

If you know Carl, he is a good, intelligent, creative, and sensitive soul who cares about his fellow humans. After spending some recovery time in San Diego, his wish is to finish his recovery process in central California, to go back to school and help others.

So here is the "gofundme" started. It will help him get back on his feet with a roof over his head while he is not able to work. It will assist with a stable clean place to recover, monthly expenses/rent, to help keep up his vehicle or buy a new more economical one to get to appointments, and to pay for any additional physical therapy/nursing support that is not covered. He will not need help with food or hospital expenses fortunately as these things appear to be mostly covered.

Only contribute if you can and want to. Much love to all of you. Thank you for all your prayers, support, likes, and words of encouragement. The hospital staff and teams have been amazing, and it would not have gone nearly as well without all of you too. With immense gratitude, from me, Carmen and Carl
