Support Carl Andrew's Fight for a Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
My name is Carl Andrew, and I am from Brooklyn, New York. I have always considered myself a proud and private person when it comes to my personal life. I never accepted help because of my pride, but I have come to realize that being open and seeking support does not diminish my worth as a man.
At 18, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which proved to be a challenging experience for me. I struggled emotionally to understand the significant changes in my body and health. For years, I faced difficulties in managing my diabetes, and unfortunately, my condition worsened over time.
In May 2022, I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. This news shook me in ways I never imagined. Since then, I have been hospitalized several times while battling diabetes, and there were even discussions among doctors about the possibility of amputating my limbs. Never in my wildest imagination did I think my life would turn out this way; however, I still believe there is so much life to live. I made the decision to allow my loved ones to assist me in navigating several life-changing circumstances, including the need for a kidney transplant. Now, I hope to receive support from the general public as well.
In October 2024, I was hospitalized due to an infection in my foot that wouldn’t heal. This infection caused high fevers, which led to a fever around my heart, a condition I didn’t even know was possible. While I was in the hospital, I also noticed that my speech was slurred, and I felt numbness in my face. After undergoing several tests upon my arrival, I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. I couldn’t help but think, “God, how much more can I take?” It has been difficult to accept this unexpected version of myself. However, this is where I am now, and I remain hopeful and full of faith that things will improve.
Life is filled with unexpected occurrences that can change your perspective on life and how you view yourself. I have decided to share my story to be completely transparent with those who may not be aware of the challenges I'm currently facing, and to connect with strangers and raise funds to help cover medical expenses and other medical needs that my insurance won’t cover.
Thankfully, I have a strong support system of friends and family who help me through this challenging time in my life. I attend dialysis three times a week for four and a half hours, but this duration has recently been reduced to four hours. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and I strive to remain hopeful for a brighter future.
Support should never feel like shame when sharing vulnerability. I appreciate you taking the time to read my story, and I hope that donations can be made to assist with my ongoing medical expenses. I also ask that you keep me in your prayers for the blessing of a kidney, which would help me regain some normalcy in my life.To anyone who is going through a similar experience, please remember that you are more than your illness; you deserve support and love, too. Stay encouraged on your journey.
May peace be with you, and God speed. Thank you!
