Many of you know my daughter, Cari, and her kids. What many of you may not know is that she and the kids have been in an extremely abusive (physical, emotional, verbal…all of it) relationship with her soon-to-be-ex husband. The abuse has escalated greatly over the past several years. Every time she would attempt to leave, he would find out and stop her one way or another. After several particularly bad recent abusive incidences, she was able to find a house and we went into high gear, scraping together every cent we could for the deposit, rent, movers, utilities and we left with the kids at the beginning of December.
His recent termination and arrest have left Cari and the kids in a new bind. Not only is she losing child support, but the boys are losing insurance. Case, her 10yr old, has multiple life-altering medical issues, including but not limited to a cecostomy button and maintenance for that, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and is in the process of being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. His conditions do not appear to be covered by Cari’s insurance through work, because they are pre existing. The weekly physical therapy appointments alone are extremely expensive and they are about to be out of pocket.
Additionally, the severity of the case now warrants Cari needing new representation to ensure the kids and her remain safe. They currently have an Emergency Protective Order in place, but she will have to continue the fight to keep their safety, while also moving forward with the divorce. Cari is working two jobs - full time day job and then taking call overnight at the ER. She is doing everything she can, but finding extra money for an additional legal retainer is not possible.
She is needing immediate help for it all…to keep her and the kids safe and the kids’ medical needs.
If there is anything you can do, you cannot know how much it will be appreciated. I keep telling her that God would not have brought her to this point just to abandon her. We have faith in abundance, but we need serious help to make it through this next phase. Thank you.
