Support Caren Oberg's In-Home Health Care

We are writing this in support of our beloved Caren Oberg, who has brought so much sunshine and love to Nantucket over the years. As many of you know, in 2024 she was diagnosed with MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), after navigating the symptoms without the clarity of a diagnosis since 2020.

The life of this vibrant soul, full of life and energy, has changed dramatically. Once surfing, gardening, skateboarding, dancing, snowboarding, biking and playing, Caren now spends most of her time at home, struggling to walk and relying on assistance to complete basic daily tasks.

The community came together last spring for a beautiful fundraiser at The Box to cover Caren’s daily living costs for an entire year—which has been essential as MSA prevents her from working and having any sort of income. She is beyond grateful for, and humbled by, the community’s support.

As her symptoms have progressed, Caren is now in need of daily, in-home health care—every morning and evening. This is not a service covered by insurance and adds a new, out-of-pocket healthcare expense for her.

Over this past fall and winter, an amazing group of women have come together to fill the gap as Caren’s *volunteer* in-home health aides. We have loved visiting with her at home and caring for her in this way, but with winter travel and the spring/summer season on the horizon, we want to initiate the next step on her journey and organize a steady schedule of in-home health care.

This GoFundMe is specifically to pay for the cost of private home health aides to support Caren. If you know Caren, you know it is not easy for her to ask for help and she is endlessly grateful for everyone’s support thus far on her difficult journey. Each moment spent with Caren is filled with constant, loving ‘thank you’s’ and ‘I am so grateful for you.’ This human is the definition of genuine unconditional love and generosity; any support for her at this time is valued beyond words.
