Friday night November 7th, 2025 my sister Cara was attacked by a dog abandoned in their care a 5 year old mastiff named Odin. 2 of their dogs got in a fight and when Cara successfully got them apart Odin was let back in since he was in the back yard at the time. As soon as he was let in without warning he attacked. We are unsure what provoked the attack but what we do know is Cara has a long road to recovery. Unfortunately 2 out of her 3 kids were present and saw the entire thing happen. She was life flighted from our local hospital by helicopter to a level 1 trauma hospital in Mesa. We couldn’t have asked for a better team to take care of her in the trauma unit and they allowed us to stay by her side the entire time. Me, her mother, and her fiance Oscar stayed by her side the entire time. I understand the pictures are distressing to see but necessary to understand the magnitude of the situation. The day after she under went a 4 and a half hour facial reconstruction surgery by an incredible surgeon. The damage was extensive and she did lose part of her right ear. We are asking for help for their family in this time. They are a hard working 2 income household with 3 children to support and we just are trying to get together enough to help cover food and some small expenses during this time. To everyone who has checked on her and shown love to her we are eternally grateful. Cara thrives off of family connection and her loved ones. We are so thankful she is alive and home now recovering.
