On May 19, I got into an accident with my roommate. After taking the car to a mechanic, I found out that not only is there cosmetic damage and a broken front passenger side door, but that my transmission needs to be replaced entirely. I bought the car on May 10 from a dealership that claimed everything was alright with the car. The warranty time period has run out and I can’t sell the car without a title, which I’m still expecting in the mail. The mechanic was able to discount the costs of parts and labor to $3800 pre tax, so I’m raising $4000 for the costs of replacing the transmission with potentially any left over going towards fixing the auto body. Having a car is absolutely essential for me to get back and forth from work in the south suburbs of Chicago every weekday for the next month.
