We are excited to share the recent success of the Shenendehowa CSD middle school team called the CaptiBytes, a FIRST Lego League (FLL) team. This team is made up of 9 dedicated students from 6th to 8th grade in Clifton Park, New York, many of whom are experiencing FLL for the first time this year.

FLL is a hands-on extracurricular STEM program in which students learn to solve real-world problems using the Engineering Design Process. Teams compete in both a robot game, which involves building attachments and coding robots to complete various missions, and in a project, in which the students research and design a unique solution to a challenge related to the Submerged theme. Their hard work paid off when they won first place at the Championship tournament at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, on February 8, 2025. Due to changes that went into effect in the previous year, they will be the only team to represent all of New York State at FIRST Championship Worlds in Houston, TX, where they’ll get a chance to compete with more than 150 teams from 58 countries.
