Captain Mark "Mooney" Crockett has been a pillar of the Tangier Island community for years, serving as both the former Fire Chief and current Vice-President of the Tangier Volunteer Fire Department. Mooney is known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to helping others. Whether through financial donations, free ferry fares, or charters, he has always gone above and beyond to support those in need. Even while battling his own health challenges, Mooney has continued to help with fire department affairs and respond to calls, showing his commitment to the community.

Recently, Mooney was hospitalized with complications from Neuro-Endocrine Cancer and the intensive treatment required to fight it. As a result, he has had to suspend his seasonal ferry service between Tangier Island and Onancock, VA for an unknown amount of time. This will create a financial strain for Mooney and his wife, Joyce, as they face mounting bills and living expenses during his recovery. The uncertainty of his health and the inability to work have made this a particularly difficult time for them.

The Tangier Volunteer Fire Department is asking for everyone's help in supporting this fundraiser to ensure that Captain Mark can rest and recover without worrying about how his bills will be paid.
