Support Candace's Fight Against Breast Cancer

Hello, My name is Candace Phillips. I never in a million years thought I would be doing this, but life can change at any moment. I am 37 years old with 2 beautiful babies. My daughter is 16 and my son is 6. I just recently found out I have stage 3 breast cancer and insurance is not covering a lot of my treatments, medications, scans and a lot of medical necessities needed. I have always been the one to give and never ask for anything back, because in my heart I knew I might need help one day and unfortunately, 2024 is the year that has changed my whole life around.

I worked at a major hospital in my home town for 10 years. I was a Certified Medical Assistant and a Certified Patient Account Rep, who loved her patients and the doctors I worked for. At the job everyone called me “SUNSHINE” and still till this day during they call me sunshine because I was so bubbly and always smiling. I am not going to let this dark place stormy weather get me down. I am still going to be Miss Sunshine, through this hard time in my life.

I have been denied so many of the medications that are very important because insurance is not covering. I had to have a double mastectomy completed and 10 cancerous lymph nodes were removed and a lot more has to be done. Due to genetics testing I have to get ready to have a full hysterectomy due to the cancer is 95 percent of ending up in my ovaries and tubes. I had to stop working because of all of my health issues combining. Lord knows I hate to ask for help when I’m the one normally giving and helping but sometimes you have to swallow your pride and ask for help. I have to report to the Hospital every day due to a shot to build my white blood cells back up and my energy level is very low due to chemotherapy. I am in tears thinking about my kids, my expenses and a lot of the medical things I need and can’t receive.

The cancer center here at our hospital advised I can get one shot every 2 weeks but it’s over $5000 which cause me to have to take the cheap way around and drive to the hospital everyday to get administered the cheaper medication. Gas is extremely high and it’s not easy driving everyday when your body feels like shutting down. My medical bills are through the roof right now. Due to medical, I had to hold off on bills for everyday living because I want to be here physically for my babies.

I am fighting this cancer harder than I ever fought in life, but stressing about my hospital charges, treatments needed and everyday living expenses making it even harder on me and my heart. My kids know that I’m going through a difficult time at the moment and they are being so considerate of not asking for anything, because they know mommy is not working and body is not the same anymore. I try not to cry in front of my kids so they can know everything is ok and mommy going to make it. Any donation will help at the moment. Again I thank you deep down in my heart.
