Support Candace Williams' Cancer Recovery Journey

My name is Candace Williams. I am a single mother of 3 who has recently gone through multiple health crisis.

In January, I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. My doctor informed me that I would need to have the left side of my thyroid removed as soon as possible . During surgery, they discovered a 3LB growth under my left breast bone and removed it. While in recovery I developed a 100ml hematoma (somewhat of a huge blood blister) on my larynx which caused excruciating pain and the inability to speak. I immediately had an emergency surgery to resolve the issue and spent 2 days in the hospital.

The initial plan was to return to work 1 week after surgery ,but due to major complications, I became temporarily disabled. I have worked very hard as a State of Illinois employee for over 14 years. Although very demanding and somewhat dangerous, I have provided a good life for myself and my children. Due to recent findings my return to work is unknown.

During an exam, it was discovered that my left vocal cord was totally paralyzed. This has been affecting my breathing, overall health and recovery . My new team of doctors are doing everything possible to move forward with adequate treatment and care. In order to fully recover and heal, multiple surgeries and radiation treatments are now needed.

Having exhausted my savings and disability, I am in need of financial help!
