Support Camp Mystic Families After Tragic Flood

I understand that many of you may not know me or the name Schumie, or Schumes, or David, or the Turtle. My name is David Schumer but please call me either Schumie or Schumes. I was a camper, counselor, CIT, and Unit Leader at Camp Greenbriar and Camp White Mountain (otherwise known as Timber Ridge) for a total of 17 years. Summer camp is in my blood and always will be!!

If you went to Timber Ridge Camps, White Mountain in particular, you probably remember the river which surrounded the camp. Now, close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are asleep in your bunk one night and in the blink of an eye your cabin, your belongings, and WORST OF ALL your bunkmate or counselor was being carried down the river by a FLOOD OF WATER!! You say goodnight to your bunkmates, turn off the lights, and a few hours later they are gone. Camp people, that is exactly what happened at Camp Mystic in Texas as I am sure by now you all have heard.

Being a camp person myself, I can't imagine such a horrible tragedy happening at Timber Ridge. However, at Camp Mystic... if you have been watching the news, I don't have to tell you what has happened to so many children, staff, and even the Director who has perished in the flooding.

After a few days of watching the news, I decided that I could not just sit and watch. I had to do something, I had to help other camp people who right now could use all the help they can get. So, I am asking all people, especially CAMP PEOPLE, to help those people from Camp Mystic, their surviving families, etc. who need our help. Please make a donation through this GoFundMe page to help the people of Camp Mystic. Your donations will go directly to those in need of our help! I have spoken directly with the Sheriff's office in Kerr County, Texas where Camp Mystic is located. At this time there are more questions than answers and things are a bit chaotic. I won't be able to establish a direct need immediately so the money raised here will be held on account until a few weeks from now when they have a better idea where the money is needed most. HOWEVER, I do believe the money will go directly to either the camp for rebuilding purposes or directly to the families. I will take guidance from those directly located in Kerr County, involved with the Camp, and the Sheriff's office.
