Dear Friends and Family,
My brother and I want to share with you about something that our family is doing together this June. We are going on a Root Causes of Migration Pilgrimage to Guatemala! I think that most of you know that our mom used to be a missionary with InnerCHANGE in Latin America. She spent many years working in really poor communities. That work was something that she loved deeply, and it is an experience she wants to share with us. So this June we are going as a family on a trip sponsored by InnerCHANGE and InnerCHANGE Companions to learn about why people are taking huge risks to leave Guatemala and come to the US.
On the trip we are going to:
See the conditions that lead people to leave their homeland first-hand.
Hear the stories of those who have emigrated, returned, and/or were deported.
Learn about Guatemala’s history, particularly its Civil War, Genocide, and how the US played a role in both.
Connect with the three InnerChange teams serving Guatemala’s impoverished communities.
Meet faith-rooted activists involved in promoting justice in Guatemala, and hear their stories of struggle.
Visit the sites where Christian martyrs paid the ultimate price for defending marginalized communities and learn their stories of hope.
When we come back, we are also going to be figuring out ways to help people who have come to our countries as immigrants. We would love your support through both praying for us, and supporting us financially. We would be happy to answer any questions you have about the trip.
