If you know Cameron, you'll know he is the kind of person who is always the first to put his hand up to help others. Whether it's supporting friends and family, lending a hand when someone is struggling, or dedicating himself to a future career in healthcare, Cameron has always been someone who puts others before himself - and for the Merimbula Sharks Basketball Alumni of 2010-2017, you absolutely should recall him on the court!

Today, Cameron is the one who needs help.

At just 29 years old, Cameron has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Stage 4 cancer called sarcoma.

Cameron moved to Canberra from Merimbula in 2020 with a clear goal: to build a career in healthcare and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Despite the challenges of studying through the COVID pandemic and overcoming personal setbacks of multiple shoulder surgery dislocations along the way, he remained committed to his dream.

In 2025, Cameron proudly completed his Bachelor of Health Science and began studying medical imaging, a field he is deeply passionate about. He was preparing for a five-week placement in Queensland and looking ahead to exciting career opportunities, including a guaranteed role at Capital Pathology in Canberra. After years of hard work, Cameron was finally beginning to see his future take shape.

Then everything changed.

In March 2026, Cameron noticed a large lump on his hip. What followed was a whirlwind of medical appointments, scans, specialist consultations, and a biopsy that would ultimately deliver devastating news.

After undergoing an MRI, ultrasound, PET scan, and biopsy, Cameron was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that develops in the body's connective tissues, including muscles, fat, cartilage, blood vessels, and bone. Sarcoma is not a single disease but an umbrella term encompassing more than 80 different subtypes, making it one of the more complex cancers to diagnose and treat.

Scans revealed that the tumour in Cameron's hip measured approximately 10 centimetres in diameter. Even more devastating was the discovery that the cancer had already spread to his lungs, lymph nodes, and thyroid. This means Cameron is now facing Stage 4 metastatic sarcoma, where cancer cells have spread beyond the original tumour to other parts of the body.

When sarcoma is diagnosed after it has spread, treatment becomes significantly more challenging. While every person's situation is unique, statistics show that the five-year survival rate for metastatic sarcoma is approximately 17%. The reality of this diagnosis has been heartbreaking for Cameron, his family, and everyone who loves him.

Despite the circumstances, Cameron remains determined to fight.

His treatment journey begins on July 10, when he will commence chemotherapy. Before treatment can begin, he must undergo surgery to have a chemotherapy port implanted beneath the skin in his chest, allowing chemotherapy medications to be administered safely and effectively.

The goal is to slow or stop the progression of the cancer, manage the disease, and give Cameron the best possible chance moving forward.

As Cameron begins this fight, he is unable to continue working or studying. The future he had worked so hard to build has been placed on hold while he focuses entirely on treatment and his health.

The financial impact has been immediate and overwhelming. Cameron has already fallen behind on rent and household bills and is struggling with the everyday costs of living. Between rent, groceries, utilities, transport, and other essential expenses, the burden continues to grow at a time when his focus should be on his treatment and recovery.

We are raising funds to help ease this pressure and provide Cameron with some stability during the most difficult period of his life. Every dollar raised will go towards helping cover rent, household bills, groceries, transport, and the many day-to-day expenses that continue while he undergoes treatment.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, and community would mean the world to Cameron and his family.

Thank you for taking the time to read Cameron's story. Your generosity, kindness, and support will help relieve some of the immense pressure he is facing and allow him to focus on what matters most: fighting this disease.

Most importantly, your support will remind Cameron that he is not facing this journey alone.
