Hi Everyone,
My name is Betsy and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister Elaine, her wife Kimberly, and their two beautiful daughters — my nieces Cameron and Corinne.
Their sweet little daughter Cameron needs support during this time in her life. She literally is the sweetest and cutest little 1.5-year-old around. And I’m proud to call her my niece ♥️
Last Fall, Cameron and the family traveled to California to see Kimberly’s family. When they got back, they all got super sick. Thinking it was just some sort of a travel bug, they laid low and eventually got better. Or so they thought…
Over the following months, they noticed Cameron’s mobility change. She wasn’t crawling or trying to walk like a typical 9-12 month old should. They also noticed that she wasn’t using one of her legs, and it was very “flaccid” or “paralyzed.” They took her to the pediatrician, and they didn’t see anything wrong with her, but we all knew there was something.
The awesome moms that Elaine and Kimberly are didn’t take that as an answer. They were persistent in trying to figure out what was going on with her.
After a year of trying to figure out what was wrong with Cameron’s leg, doctors finally discovered that she has Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) — which is caused by a virus. This is a rare and serious condition that affects the nervous system and causes muscle weakness and paralysis. This diagnosis has changed their lives and brought many challenges to their family.
On November 10th, Elaine and Kimberly will be traveling with Cameron to Philadelphia for specialized medical appointments. There, they’ll meet with a leading neurologist who will determine if Cameron qualifies for nerve surgery on her leg — a procedure that could help her regain strength and mobility.
The surgery is time-sensitive, and they only have a few more months before Cameron could age out of eligibility if doctors determine it would help her.
Kimberly has been a full-time stay-at-home mom, caring for both Cameron and her older sister, Corinne. Elaine started her own business over the last couple of years, which is still getting off the ground. Between travel expenses, medical bills, and daily living costs, the financial strain has been incredibly difficult on their family — especially this past year.
We’re asking for help to cover:
• Travel and lodging for the upcoming medical trip to Philadelphia
• Medical expenses and recovery care for Cameron
• Everyday household costs while the family focuses on Cameron’s healing
Cameron is a strong, brave, sweet, and always happy little 1 ½-year-old who continues to smile through it all, and Corinne has been the best big sister — helping, loving, and cheering her on every step of the way.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference in helping them stay focused on what matters most: giving Cameron the best chance to heal and, hopefully, give her the ability to walk on her own again.
Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support during this time.
Love ya all!
