My name is Angela. My son, Cameron, is 16 years old and was born with Panhypopituitarism and Cerebral Palsy, which have left him with a multitude of physical and developmental challenges. He requires complete care physically and is nonverbal. My husband and I are his sole caregivers, which means we have been caring for him his entire life.

Because of Cameron’s limitations, he requires a custom wheelchair, which he spends most of his waking hours in because it is the only way he can get around. He is unable to sit unassisted, walk, or use his hands/arms, so he cannot bathe himself or do any other activities a typical person can do.

Since my husband and I both work outside the home and have private medical insurance for Cameron, we are disqualified from receiving any financial or medical assistance for Cameron’s needs. In addition, our private insurance does not cover any of Cameron’s equipment needs—no wheelchairs, diapers, communication devices, bath chairs, etc. Financially, we are unable to afford all of these things because the cost is in the tens of thousands of dollars collectively. Because of this, we are not able to financially afford all of his needs alone. Asking for help does not come easy for us, but our son deserves to live the best life he can, just like anyone else.
