Local chamber orchestra Camerata Little Rock will present their second season spring concert: “Beyond Borders: Italian Composers Abroad” on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral (310 W. 17th St.). The performance is FREE and open to the public.
Camerata Little Rock is a dynamic professional ensemble whose goal is to present the great works of the Baroque and Classical eras in appropriate settings. Its rotating roster of musicians includes members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and University of Central Arkansas faculty members, as well as guest soloists.
Camerata Little Rock will now present "Beyond Borders," an exciting concert of orchestral, vocal, and chamber works by some of the leading 18th century Italian composers who achieved success abroad. The program will open with a brilliant Concerto Grosso by Pietro Antonio Locatelli, and followed by a selection of operatic arias by Tomaso Albinoni, specifically prepared for this concert from the original manuscripts. Also included are a suite of Scottish airs and songs by Francesco Geminiani, and Luigi Boccherini’s Spanish-inspired “Fandango” Quintet for Guitar and Strings, featuring Andrew Flory. The concert will last for approximately one hour and the experience will be both educational and informal. An Italian-themed reception will follow the performance.
The musician roster for this concert includes ensemble director Geronimo Oyenard, Leanne Day-Simpson, Algimantas Staskevicius, and Katherine Williamson (violins); Tatiana Kotcherguina and Thomas McDonald (violas); Micah Donar, Joanna Klett, and Jacob Wunsch (cellos); Sean O'Hara (bass); Jonathan Tomasello (castanets); Shannon Webb (mezzo-soprano); Andrew Flory (lute, theorbo, and guitar).
Camerata Little Rock is a non-profit organization. While the concert is free to the public, a fundraising campaign is needed to cover the musicians' fees, sheet music costs, and facility expenses. A “pay-what-you-want” ticket option will be accepted at the welcoming table on the night of the performance, as well as donations and contributions for any amount through the event's GoFundMe page. If the campaign successfully exceeds its goal, funds will help ensure future performances by the ensemble.
We are beyond excited to present this program! We appreciate you spreading the word and hope to see you there!
