On July 14th, our son, grandson, nephew, Calvin Werner, lost his life tragically. He was 21 years old and this was completely unexpected. He leaves behind a 2-year-old son.
Calvin's parents have been enduring severe financial hardships due to Calvin's stepfather, Warren Umanos, being hit by an Amazon truck in August of 2023, which caused him to become disabled and unable to continue his job with United Airlines, where he worked for 17 years. Several months after he lost his job, they lost their home and later their vehicle because Calvin's mom, Esther Umanos, couldn't afford to keep it on her own income alone.
They decided to move back to Emporia last year to be with family. Esther had to leave her job, losing all of her employer-sponsored life insurances. Esther works in Topeka, and they have been living on less than 1/4 of their previous income with 3 teenagers to support. Calvin's grandparents have been helping to support Calvin's teenage siblings, but his grandmother, Rosa Sparks, recently lost her job with the Tyson closure and has not been able to find new work as of yet. We haven't been able to get stable financially for a while now, so we're all very anxious and worried about how we'll cover these expenses.
If you're able to contribute financially, we would be extremely grateful. If you cannot, please share anywhere you can. Thank you.
