Cali’s Crew

Thank you for being here and for being part of “Cali’s Crew”. We are coming together as family, friends, and community to support Cali and her family as they face an unimaginable journey while she awaits a heart transplant at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

At less than three months old, sweet Cali went from being a happy, smiling baby to being critically ill needing to be airlifted to Edmonton in heart failure.

Last week, Cali underwent open-heart surgery to receive a Berlin Heart, a mechanical device that sits outside the body and will temporarily do the work of her heart until a donor heart becomes available. The expected wait for a suitable donor could be anywhere from one to two years, meaning Cali and her family will need to remain in Edmonton for the duration of that wait.

During this time, Cali’s parents, Corey and Carina, have had to leave their home in Grande Prairie and relocate to Edmonton with their two-year-old daughter. They do not know when they will be able to return home. The financial burden is growing quickly, with expenses including travel, temporary housing, furnishing an apartment, maintaining their mortgage and household bills in Grande Prairie, lost income while Corey takes time away from work, meals, pet care, and countless unexpected costs that come with a prolonged medical stay.

No child should ever have to face a life-threatening illness, and no parents should have to carry this kind of emotional and financial burden alone.

We hope to ease some of the stress on Corey and Carina so they can focus their energy where it belongs - on loving, supporting, and caring for Cali. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for this family during the most difficult time of their lives.
