Anyone who knows Caleb knows the sweet, fun, sassy individual who never fails to make you laugh. Unfortunately, Caleb’s life and the lives of all those who love him were turned upside down on Saturday, June 29th, 2024. His mom received a call that no parent should ever have to get: her son, Caleb, had passed out, hit his head on a concrete floor, and was being rushed to the Hospital. While she was driving to Denver from Colorado Springs, the ER doctor called to inform her that Caleb was in an active medical emergency. His heart rate had dropped dangerously low to 30 bpm, and EMTs had to externally stimulate his heart to stabilize him on the way to the hospital. The Dr let his mom know that at that time, they were not sure exactly what was going on, but they were sending him for a CT scan.
The results of the first CT scan showed a significant skull fracture and three brain bleeds. One of the bleeds was quite large and directly related to the fall, while the cause of the other two is uncertain. At this point, we don’t know if the two smaller bleeds were what caused him to pass out or if the impact caused all the injuries. The truth is, we may never know.
Caleb was immediately admitted to the ICU. A second CT scan was conducted later that evening and showed a worrying amount of brain swelling. The third scan early Sunday morningshowed that the swelling had not gone down but had not increased. Thankfully, surgery hasn't been needed so far, but Caleb’s road to recovery is so very far from over. Caleb was moved last night from the ICU to the Trauma unit at Swedish Medical Center. For now, he will continue to remain in the hospital and eventually will need to start a TBI brain rehabilitation program. As his doctors have said, we are not in for a sprint; this is going to be a marathon.
Why we need your help:
Caleb’s lost his job a few months ago, which has made this whole situation even more challenging. We are fortunate to be able to enroll him in COBRA to cover most of his medical expenses. However, COBRA does not cover all costs, including premiums, out-of-pocket expenses, and daily living needs and he does not have the resources to cover these expenses.
This journey will be long and challenging, and we want Caleb to focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial worries. Your support will remind him that he is not alone—he has a community that loves him and is fighting with him every step of the way.
Please consider donating to Caleb's GoFundMe campaign. Any amount, big or small, will make a significant difference. Share this campaign with your network to spread the word. Together, we can ensure Caleb gets the care he needs and knows he's surrounded by love and support on his road to recovery.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Let’s help Caleb heal.
