Hello, my name is Caleb Jackson! I am currently a 4th year at the University of Georgia, pursuing Bassoon Performance and Music Theory degrees. After my Bachelor's, I plan to stay at UGA and pursue a Masters Degree in Musicology, with a focus in Early Music studies.
Though I play the modern bassoon, my true passion is early music, specifically the recorder. Currently, I do not own a professional model instrument that would be able to withstand high level playing, but with your help, that could be a possibility!
I love teaching others and performing on this instrument. I have been fortunate enough to be in a community where I am supported and allowed to showcase my love. Starting 2 years ago, I founded and still currently lead a thriving recorder consort at the University of Georgia. The group currently has about 15 members. The group has found much success playing at school “common hours” and has even been invited to perform at events in the Athens community!
Someone who has truly helped me immensely in this journey is Jody Miller, the president of the American Recorder Society and Music Director of Lauda Musicam of Atlanta. I have performed various instruments with this group, but most recently I was able to perform Vivaldi’s Recorder Concerto in C minor with the group. Jody has aided the UGA Early music scene a TON, helping by supplying us with recorders, and other early music instruments. With his help, a friend and I have been able to start and lead a Renaissance Band at UGA this semester!
I am forever grateful for Jody and the Lauda Musicam community for being so welcoming, generous, encouraging, and ecstatic to share the love of early music.
While I am pursing a scholar-based degree, I still want to keep performing as an early musician. Owning my own professional model wooden recorder will aid me in working towards my ultimate goal: spreading my love for the instrument/early music, by performing and teaching others.
Below, you can find various recordings of the recorder consort on my YouTube channel and the Vivaldi recorder concerto! Additionally, if you have instagram, the UGA Recorder Consort’s account is @ugarecorder.
Thank you so incredibly much for your consideration!
