Caleb Slater is a conservative and former candidate for the New York State Senate who is now facing an unprecedented legal battle that not only threatens his future, but the future of all candidates across New York State, or anywhere that implements the public financing of political campaigns, which is growing across the nation.
What happened:
During the summer of 2024, Caleb Slater's campaign committee was advised by a consultant on campaign finance matters that later became the subject of scrutiny.
When concerns were raised, the candidate, Caleb Slater, and the Slater for Senate 2024 campaign committee took immediate steps to correct the situation.
- The consultant involved was terminated
- The state public campaign finance board was immediately notified of the issues
- Efforts were made to fully cooperate and remedy the situation
The Public Campaign Finance Board has brought allegations of wrongdoing and there is an investigation being conducted by the New York State Attorney General's office.
This is an ongoing civil and administrative legal fight, thus Caleb is not entitled to legal representation. The news coverage of the matter has resulted in damage to Slater's reputation, as well as termination from his employment.
Legal defense against the power of the Public Campaign Finance Board (PCFB) and New York Attorney General's office requires experienced counsel and extensive resources.
Funds raised will be used to cover:
- Legal defense for the administrative hearing
- Appeals and litigation in New York State Supreme Court
- Legal costs associated with defending and restoring Caleb's reputation
The fight ahead will be expensive, but Slater stands ready to defend not only his name, but the ability for all future candidates to run without the fear of excessive penalties.
Our goal: $600,000
We are seeking to raise $600,000 to fund Caleb Slater's legal defense and ensure he has the resources necessary to promptly defend himself.
Every donation is appreciated.
