Hello all! Let me preface this with a big F you to cancer! My name is Cait, and I’m a 37 year old wife and mother to 4 beautiful children, ages 10, 8, 3 and 1. On June 19th I had a pain in my side and found a lump under my armpit. I immediately called my doctor and was scheduled to come in the next day. When I went in I truly thought it was a cyst or something else but was told no, this doesn’t feel like a cyst. My doctor told me to immediately schedule for a mammogram and ultrasound, so one long, anxiety filled week of waiting later, I was seen at the Cooper Cancer Institute. This is where I was told the devastating news that it looks like I indeed have breast cancer, and that because it’s in my lymph nodes it’s “at least” at stage 2. My heart dropped into my stomach and as I cried into some random ultrasound techs arms, all I could think of was my kids. My babies who are still so young and need their mama. I was then sent for a biopsy to confirm, which it did that cancer was found in both my breast and lymph nodes. Not only cancer but Triple Negative breast cancer, it’s one of the most aggressive forms with some of the most aggressive treatment. In a couple short weeks I’ll be going through chemo hell, and hopefully if the tumors disappear it will be followed with surgery and radiation. I’m going to fight as hard as I can to be here for my 4 beautiful babies. I never thought I’d make one of these for myself, but with my husband John being the only income in our home, and me most likely needing him for appointments here and there, he will lose income taking time off from work. I also have new expenses, such as transportation to the hospital I’m getting treatment at and other things related to treatment. If you feel so inclined to help you can donate here, or you can donate directly to my Venmo at @Cait823
Prayers are also very appreciated. Love to all and don’t forget to check those boobs. As I’ve learned, breast cancer has been affecting women younger and younger these days. They said the average age is over 60, I’m only 37 with no family history. You never think it’s going to be you, until it is.
