Those who know Burt know that he has faced many challenges throughout his life. He is there always to help, give, and contribute, no matter the person or circumstances. He is the strongest man that lights up every room he walks into. Burt is currently 49 years old and has three kids. He is a loving son, father, uncle, cousin, friend, coworker, and so loved by many.
As many of you know Burt was diagnosed with GBM Stage 4 Brain Cancer in June 2024. GBM is Glioblastoma and at this stage it id the most aggressive and advanced type of brain cancer. The malignant tumor grows rapidly and invades healthy brain tissue. Treatments can fall short. It can lead to personality changes, irrtability, seizures, vision issues, and many more complications.
Burt complained of severe intesne headaches and went to multiple doctor appointmenrs and everything turned out normal. Burt was always healthy as he was working out since he was 15 years old. Burt could no linger take the headaches and suffered vision issues. He went to Memorial Hospital west where the CT scan revelaed two 10cm masses requiring immediste surgery. He began chemotherapy and radiation at the University of Miami. Burt was always positive despite the new diagnosis that not many knew about or the treatment plans.
As of November 2024 Burt had to have a stent placed inside the brain to relieve cerebrospinal fluid that was causing a building leading to intense headache and continuous bleeding at the stitches. He was then taken back to the hospital and has been there since. The stent led to many complications causing him to have two mild strokes, sepsis, and pneumonia. Burt lost his ability to speak and sensation on his left side. After 30 days in the hospital, the University of Miami informed us there was no longer anything that could be done as none of the interventions were working.
Burt then had to be transferred to hospice.. This has been a complete turn on all of us as Burt was always determined to beat the fight and always remained positive. At this time there are NO VISITS as it is an intense time for the family to accept. The nurses informed us to keep the visits this way as Burt is in a very critical state. We will be looking to plan a service for Burt for all those welcomed as we continue to update.
For all those who have donated, texted, called, and have sent prayers we appreciate it more than you know. Thank you to every one of you. We have been able to pay medical expenses, medical equipment, and bills towards Burt’s needs. I know Burt is tremendously grateful and loves you all.
As we are receiving a high volume of texts and calls we please ask again that you monitor this page. We are keeping in close contact with the nurses and healthcare providers and it is difficult to update so many at once… Thank you all again.
Please continue to pray for Burt at this very difficult time and share to spread the word❤️❤️
