Help Burgess Curl Recover from a Stroke and Get Back Home to Nina
Dear friends,
We are reaching out to you today to share the story of Burgess Curl, a commercial painter from Newfoundland with a big heart.
Burgess suffered a stroke in September 2021 while painting at a worksite in Ontario. Against all odds, Burgess has survived this life-altering event and is now on the long road to recovery. However, his journey has been difficult, and he and his wife Nina are now in desperate need of our support.
After his stroke, Burgess was not expected to live. However, his incredible strength and willpower have helped him pull through. Unfortunately, he has not received the support he needs from the Ontario health system, and he is currently languishing in a nursing home for the elderly. Burgess and Nina have no family to turn to, and they have no funds to support his physical rehabilitation, which is crucial for him to recover and get back home to Nina.
Give generously to support a big giver
It’s always the good guys that get the hardest breaks! Burgess is one of them. He's a friendly, kind-hearted Newfoundlander who has always been there for others, even in difficult times. Burgess has been a generous supporter of many causes like the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sick Kids Hospital, and animal charities. He is a solid rock for those around him, and now it's our turn to support him.
Nina herself is a struggling hairdresser and the sole supporter of the family. She loves Burgess dearly. They were swindled out of their savings years ago, leaving them with no financial cushion to fall back on.
“The doctor told me to prepare myself for the worst… but I had hope, and my love for him was strong,” says Nina. “Unfortunately, the hospital didn't expect him to live and refused to put him in rehab. We have had to fund his physio with no savings and only my hairdresser’s salary – so it has been very hard.”
We are asking for your help to fund Burgess's physical rehabilitation so that he can get back home to Nina, who is doing everything in her power to care for him. Every donation counts, and your support will make a huge difference in the lives of these two incredible people.
Here are some of the items your generous donations will help to fund to ease their burden:
- Physiotherapy sessions -$140/hr
- A rocket stick (for wireless access in his LTC home)
- Supplemental nutritious meals
- Car, insurance, and other healthcare expenses not covered
Please note: a charitable tax receipt can be made available for donations of $200 or higher. (click on the "Contact Organizer" button below for more info before supporting Burgess & Nina)
Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness.
