Hi, my name's Remy and this is my cat, Bumi (yes, he's named after Avatar: The Last Airbender).
I rescued Bumi in 2017 when he was a found as a sick kitten in a box dumped on the side of the road, and he's since been a beloved member of my family these last 8 years along with his adopted siblings Suki and Chumlee. He has brought so much joy, laughter, and love into my life with his perfect hugs, big purrs, and chatty conversation.
On Monday, September 22 of this year, Bumi had an episode of vomiting, heavy breathing from his mouth, and severe lethargy with pale white gums. His primary vet recommended the ER over urgent care and we rushed over immediately. Five hours later, it was determined that he had to stay overnight to be monitored and stabilized and continue investigating what caused his symptoms. Over the past 24 hours, he has had multiple rounds of blood panels, ultrasounds, and various testing done to try and pinpoint a diagnosis. We have no firm answers at present, but the vets believe it could be one of the following:
- Heart Failure
- Small Cell Lymphoma
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
- Severe Kidney Infection
- Another infection that's yet to be diagnosed
(Shout out to Raven and the lovely team at PASE in Philadelphia!)
With his overnight stay and exams/labs the following day, Bumi's current vet bill has exceeded $5,000. He was able to come home today (9/23) to be monitored instead of staying overnight, but will be returning soon for additional labs and further examination to hopefully get to a final diagnosis — this will likely put him closer to the $6000 mark before any prescriptions or treatment are determined. While he is thankfully insured, this well exceeds his maximum for the year and only a percentage will be covered. Between some savings and expected insurance payout, I have thankfully been able to float his bill to get the care that he needs for now, but not without financial impact.
Bumi and I appreciate any help or support that you're able to provide, but understand that many are going through hard times and not everyone has the resources to donate. We've been there. Please consider spreading the word if a donation is not in the cards — every little thing counts!
