My name is Maria Stravato and I saved Bumble from being euthanized on Easter Sunday from Broward County Animal Care. No one was coming for him because of the holiday—no one was checking their social media or phones—but the shelter didn’t care.
UPDATE July 2025: after putting together a huge adopt-A-thon event for Bumble and a few other dogs, he was adopted by a woman who we had three meetings with over the course of 2 1/2 months, and with whom we did a home visit for 3 hours with Bumble’s trainer. After only 48 hours and do the fault of his own, she could not handle Bumble for regular dog things, like barking at the Window, and going through a door that the adopter left open to outside, and she returned him!! I honestly didn’t want him with her five more minutes, because her anxiety was transferring to him and everyone else. As disappointed as I am, I am very committed to finding this boy a loving home. Any help in order for me to continue to care for Bumble going into months four and five while I search for a truly deserving home would be appreciated!
May 2025 - I’ve had him in my care now for two months, and I can say that he is truly a loving and sweet dog who has been through a lot of abuse while being in a crate. That being said, I’ve had to bring in a trainer with my own money to help me reinforce positive associations with things like a crate. He’s definitely going to need a special non-wired crate called an impact crate, as that’s what he’s been trained to like now. So there’s some unique things that based on his history, he will need.
He’s had some vet bills along the way for diarrhea when he was first brought home and needed to see the emergency vet. I never made an Amazon wish list since he wasn’t originally mine (I was just supposed to pull him and bring him to a foster, who backed out a day later), so I’ve been paying for toys, treats and everything else on my own. I’m trying to have him pulled by a rescue as the shelter has a 90-day maximum on dogs in foster, and I know that they are going to ask me for pledges. Rescues cannot take more dogs in without pledges.
I wish I could keep Bumble, but I have two big dogs from BCAC of my own and I live alone - I don’t even have a yard. But Bumble is a sweetheart. He is fixed, UTD on shots and preventives, housebroken, good with dogs his size and older kids, and very loving and a cuddle bug. He deserves a great home and I’m committed to finding that.
This page is really designed to help me with the pledges that they will likely require to pull him as well as the crate that he will need to go to his forever home. Thank you for listening to his story and supporting him. Even forgoing your daily coffee for one day and pledging five dollars for him helps and is appreciated!
We CANNOT let Bumble go back to BCAC - we need pledges for a rescue to pull him in case nobody comes forward before July 20th to adopt him. Thank you for pledging!
