Buffey Smith, my mom and lifelong resident of Asheville in Western North Carolina, has recently undergone the unimaginable due to Hurricane Helene, losing her apartment, car, and the majority of her belongings. My mom has always been an active member of her communities, whether it be going above and beyond in her work for Veritas Christian Academy for 18 years or leading Vacation Bible School sessions at Calvary Episcopal Church. My mom loves this community, as do I, so seeing the devastation caused by this recent disaster is truly heartbreaking.
Buffey’s apartment in Fletcher was completely flooded with waist-high water which has ruined all of her furniture, belongings, and car, and forced her to be without an apartment. Buffey was luckily able to escape her apartment late on Friday, 9/27 with her two cats and seek shelter with her sister and brother-in-law in Fairview.
I'm starting this campaign to help raise funds that will help my mom get back on her feet. These funds will be for:
- basic necessities - food, water, toiletries, supplies for her two cats, Shawn & Gus
- rent once she is able to find a new apartment
- a car
- furniture & clothing
Any amount is very, very deeply appreciated. Thank you!
