UPDATE: Bud had a blockage, the amazing vets at VEG in Winter Park were able to do a procedure to clear it and treat Buds high potassium level.
He is getting fluids and has a catheter to help drain his very angry bladder and kidneys. The team there has been amazing and has given me a substantial discount due to my medical field work and assisting them today in his procedure and care. I still have about $1000 to cover if he’s miraculously able to leave tomorrow. So any and all help you can give will be huge to get my best friend back home.
His potassium was better when I left this evening but his creatinine higher but he was awake at least. I’m told tonight he’s sitting up and purring, so I have all the hope in the world that my little buddy with be okay.
My cat, Bud is very ill. Yesterday, we visited the vet and did blood work. The results came in this morning, diagnosing Bud with very severe kidney failure. Today, he’s being hospitalized to try to stabilize him and run diagnostics to find the cause and determine if it’s an acute or chronic case.
Bud is only 1 year old. I’ve had him and his brother and sister since they were 2 weeks old, weighing only a pound each. At the time we were fostering them, Bud and I bonded like I’ve never bonded with another animal. At the time, we had no intention of adopting a cat, but he was so special I couldn’t let him go. He’s my stress relief.
If you’ve met Bud, you know that he gives the best “Bud Hugs” and that he’s the most gentle, friendly cat you’ve ever met.
We aren’t sure yet of the cause or if there’s going to be a treatment option once we do. Just the hospitalization itself for diagnostics with kidney ultrasounds and IV fluid treatment is going to cost quite a lot. I’m hoping that some of my Facebook friends wouldn’t mind foregoing their Monday morning Starbucks coffee and donating that $5 dollars to my Bud instead so I can ensure that he gets the best care and that finances don’t have to dictate giving him less treatment than he deserves.
