We are working to raise funds to help Bud with his medical expenses for cancer treatments at Envita Medical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Bud’s fight with cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), began in September of 2022 when he underwent a partial liver resection, gall bladder and lymph node removal, as well as chemotherapy. He was told he was in remission in October 2023. On July 11th, 2024, Bud was told that his cancer had returned. Since the return of his cancer, Bud has been doctoring between Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, SD, and UNMC in Omaha, NE. In late August 2024, both hospitals informed Bud that he is not a candidate for a liver transplant or any other operations that would remove the tumor; therefore, his cancer is not curable, and he has been put on palliative care at Avera McKennan. He and his family have refused to accept the prognosis, and after much research, they have found a medical team at Envita Medical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, that has given Bud and his family not only the hope they have sought but also a true solution to eradicate this rare form of cancer. However, insurance will not cover any treatments, and everything will be out of pocket for the family.
Bud and his wife are both South Dakota natives. They have 4 children ranging from 19 years old to 4 years old. They have a 1-year-old granddaughter and another on the way in the spring of 2025. Bud has accomplished much in his life. Most proudly, he served our country in the United States Army for 10 years from 1998-2008. He was one of the first to be deployed to Iraq after our country was attacked on September 11th, 2001. During his time in the Army, Bud received many awards and decorations for his service and was promoted to Sergeant, where he led his soldiers on many missions. Bud was deployed a total of 3 times in those ten years to Iraq and Afghans until he was medically discharged after sustaining injuries in combat in Afghanistan in 2008.
