Hi, my name is Lisa (Terrazas) Schmidt and I have been a lifelong friend of Anna and was a neighbor and friend of her husband, (the late) Carl Monninger. Recently I was made aware of a Barbacoa fundraiser in Calexico that Anna was doing for her son Buddy. I asked her to give me more details so that we could expand the scope of fundraising so that those friends of ours that don't live in Imperial Valley could contribute too.

Anna informed me that her son Buddy became paralyzed two years ago from a spinal injury. The fundraiser is to build an addition on to the home that he and his wife own. They own a very small home. He is finally able to sleep in his bedroom (after 2 years!) but because it is a small room and they have space limitations, there is not enough room for wheelchairs and other mobility devices. He needs to have a room and a shower/bathroom that are ADA compatible to give him a decent quality of life. Anna wishes to use the funds to pay for an addition to the back of the house which will give Buddy his own room (and privacy) while he deals with this disability.

All I know is that Carl and Anna are very near and dear to me. They have always been there for others in so many ways. In the old days, this would be accomplished by the "compadre" system of helping each other out in our little town of Calexico. Now, most of us are spread out all over the country and Anna will have to find a way to make this happen. (Note: Anna has had a few offers of different means of help that will cut down on the expenses and the target goal in this Go Fund Me could change.)

So I hope all of us "Bulldogs" will do their best to help get this project off the ground. I know how helpless Anna must feel having to tackle this alone without Carl's help. I know Carl could have picked up the phone and asked his ONE MILLION friends to help out. So, Carl (and Anna)...I'm asking them on your behalf to help your son Buddy get the room and the privacy he needs.
