Buddy Sampson And The Scoop LA Needs Your Help

I'm Buddy Sampson, the publisher of The Scoop LA.

Recently, I was blessed to receive my Master’s Degree from USC in Digital Media Management. Despite a diagnosis of cancer, I was still able to finish and get my degree, but that was after taking time off from school to have three surgeries.

I am blessed to have a number of talents. I own a publication, The Scoop LA. I’m a semi-professional musician and I’m a journalist and copywriter. I know that eventually, The Scoop LA will be successful, we're suffering a slow down in business.

Earlier this year, I was recruited by a company, Outlier, that was paying well. But abruptly in March, after hiring a number of people, including myself, at a high rate of pay, $40 an hour, they hired a number of people at half the rate I was being paid and stopped giving employees that were being paid at the higher rate work at all. Although I’m technically still employed by the company, not being given work, is being unemployed.

In addition, the client base for The Scoop LA has dried up. The pandemic severely affected my business and gigs musically have also dried up, due to the closure of many music venues.

At my age, 67, age, race and health have played a factor in the hiring at high-level and low- level positions. I have experienced homelessness before, and now looking at the prospect of experiencing homelessness again, and it took me 10 years to get on my feet after I experienced homelessness the last time.

So, as much as it pains me to ask, I need help. I need to raise $5,000 in a week to save my apartment, or I’m staring at the prospect of homelessness. I’ve already been served eviction papers and the court date is July 12th.
