As siblings, nothing is more painful than watching someone you love struggle every day and not being able to take that pain away. Our brother, Buddy Councilor, has been diagnosed with CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy), a rare and serious autoimmune neurological disorder that has completely changed his life.
CIDP attacks the peripheral nerves, damaging the protective myelin sheath and disrupting communication between the brain and body. For Buddy, this means constant nerve pain, numbness, weakness in his arms and legs, and increasing difficulty walking, working, and completing even the simplest daily tasks. Things most people take for granted now require enormous effort and come with significant pain.
Because CIDP is rare and often difficult to diagnose and manage, Buddy has endured countless doctor visits, tests, and specialist appointments just to get answers. Treatment is ongoing and may include IVIG infusions, medications, and long-term neurological care. These treatments are essential but extremely costly, and progress is often slow and unpredictable.
The financial strain has quickly become overwhelming. Medical bills have already reached thousands of dollars, and Buddy has been unable to work consistently due to the severity of his symptoms. The emotional and physical toll of living with a chronic, disabling condition is heavy enough without the added stress of worrying about how to afford care.
Buddy has always been a hardworking, proud man who provides for himself and others. Asking for help does not come easily to him, which is why we are coming together as a family to ask on his behalf. He cannot fight this battle alone.
