A few days ago, Bucket suffered a spinal cord injury that left her unable to stand, walk, or do anything on her own. I woke up to her wincing in pain, paralyzed and unable to respond to her name. She also lost control of her bladder and bowels. I had to take her to 3 different hospitals to finally get the diagnosis of ANNPE. A disk ruptured and squirted out a substance that shot at Bucket's spinal cord at a high speed, causing the injury.
The good news is that she is expected to be able to walk again and is already showing encouraging signs of progress. She can move around a bit now, is trying to hold herself up, and even trying to walk (to no avail, unfortunately) It seems like her left side has been affected the most.
We won't know if there is any permanent damage for a few weeks, but while she'll walk one day again (hopefully soon!), we don't know to what extent and were told that she won't make a 100% recovery as there's a chance her walk will be abnormal. She will also have to live a low-impact lifestyle from here on out.
Luckily, I have pet insurance that will cover a lot of the vet bills, however, because she had to be seen at 3 different hospitals before getting a diagnosis I have multiple co-pays and bills that will not be covered by the insurance. She will also have to go to physical therapy to further help her get back to normal as much as she can, which my insurance does not cover.
As you can imagine, this has all been very expensive, and while I hate asking for help, I definitely could use some right now. I want to give Bucket the best chance at living as normal of a life as possible.
