Support Bubbles' Journey to Become a Nurse

Hello!

I'm raising funds for Kuhle "Bubbles" Madlokazi to continue her studies at university in the USA.

At age 14, Bubbles was recruited to play soccer with the Black Rock Football Club at High Mowing School in New Hampshire, where I taught her for three years. Following her graduation from High Mowing, Bubbles returned home to her grandmother's house in Khayelitsha, South Africa. Within a week, they were attacked in the middle of the night by someone stuffing rags soaked in gasoline under the door and setting them on fire. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured.

It became clear that Bubbles could not stay in South Africa safely. Our family funded her studies for her first year of Junior college, which was partly funded on a soccer scholarship. Bubbles was then offered a place at a four-year college to study nursing. She's been taking classes this summer to meet prerequisites and will begin her studies in Maine in a few short weeks.

With Bubbles having no resources of her own other than her soccer scholarship, our family is committed to supporting her. However, it's a huge stretch for us and we will need help to cover all of the costs, including room, board, clothing, medical and dental care, etc.

Why are we supporting Bubbles?

While the initial reason was to keep her safe, anyone who's met Bubbles can tell you that she is very special. Bright, inquisitive, hard-working, determined, kind and easy-going are just a few ways to describe her. She has already demonstrated her ability to succeed in college during her first year.

Having Bubbles in college in the US has already had a positive impact on her family. While here, she has been able to help her family obtain information about work opportunities. She sometimes helps her younger brother with his homework, and she has been encouraging cousins and friends to continue their education. As a nurse, Bubbles will be able to help her family financially and fulfill her wish to serve her community. She wants to support her cousins and younger brother in their education and support her grandmother's retirement.
