Dear friends and compassionate strangers,

Russell “Bub” Fuller, a beloved and familiar face in Duncannon, Pennsylvania, is in need of our help. Many of you may know Bub from his regular visits to Goodies restaurant, where he would share a morning breakfast with friends, or perhaps you’ve seen him casting his line out on the river, living out his passion for fishing. Bub has always been the kind of person who gives of himself, whether through his years of service delivering medication to patients in hospice care at Pinnacle Health, or through his infectious spirit and kind heart.

But now, it’s Bub who needs our support.

For some time, Bub has been quietly battling congestive heart failure and bone cancer. Unfortunately, his cancer has spread and his prognosis is poor. He is now under hospice care, enduring immense pain from the bone cancer that has made it impossible for him to stay at home, where he had always hoped to remain. The cost of his care has risen far beyond what he and his wife, who survive on Social Security, could have ever anticipated.

As a result of his condition, Bub has been admitted to a hospice facility that specializes in physician-supervised pain management. While these facilities offer the care Bub needs, they come with a staggering price tag—over $11,400 a month—for the portion of care classified as “Residential Care Facility” an amount that is difficult to manage without long-term care insurance is an expense of the family. The Hospice pain management portion is paid by Medicare Part A, so if his pain were manageable, he would have been able to stay at home as he requested with Hospice covered by Medicare Part A. However due to the extreme pain that comes with bone cancer, Bub’s wish was not within reach. Bub and his wife never expected to face such financial strain in their later years, but the reality of his illness and the cost of care has placed a tremendous burden on them.

We are hoping to bring Bub back home, where he would feel the comfort and love of familiar surroundings, but in order to do so, he requires in-home care, plus Hospice Pain Management that comes with significant costs. The expenses are mounting, and his family needs your help to provide him with the care he deserves during his battle with this horrible disease.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly to covering the costs of Bub’s pain management, in-home care, and the expenses that have come with his treatment. Your generosity will make it possible for him to live out his days in peace, surrounded by those who love him, without the added stress of financial worry.

Bub has always been there for others—now it’s our turn to support him in his time of need.
